Blog 4

I really enjoyed my trip to the Museum of the Moving Image and the Jon Henson exhibit because of how many interesting displays and interactive games they had.  One thing that stuck out to me was the process of making the puppets that dominated TV for so many years. There was a lot more things happening behind the scenes then I ever realized. Reading about the history of each puppet and then watching it in action on TV, was a memorable part of my trip. Some notable puppets I read about and were interested in were Miss Peggy in her giant wedding dress, Kermit and the puppets used with the Ed Sullivan Show. To be able to see the artwork or storyboards for famous shows, showed me the necessary work that is done before shooting live. It also reminds me that everything we see on TV, such as the puppets on display, are all drawn in pre production. Although there is more and more technology impacting film and how it’s made and shown, the base of it is art, drawing and creativity in desig...

Blog 3 - Relationship Between Shots

Blog #3 The film scene I picked was a scene from the office. Everyone is in the conference room, and everyone is talking to each other. The camera makes quick city's to each other, showing their reaction to something said or to comment. The connected shots of every character, creates a fluid conversation on screen. The shaking of the camera also makes you feel like you are in the room with them, with the conversation bouncing around you. Most of the shots try to include everyone's faces, in order to capture multiple reactions. This allows us as the viewer to watch a group of people react, instead of a close up on one. There are also a lot of jump cuts to the quick comments made in The Office, which make it so funny. There are no point of view shots, as the camera is never a character in the office, but the closest to that is the characters look at the camera. The first shot is of Toby, then quickly to the rest of the room, then back to Toby. Then it cuts to a medium s...

SoundWalk

The area I picked for my sound walk, was my walk home from Hunter. It was just after 3pm, so right as I exited Hunter I walked into hundreds of students going between buildings, running to the subway, waiting on line for food or just standing with groups of friends talking. Over the white noise of everyone talking and the city, I heard a student yell above it all to ask for extra white sauce on his platter. There were sounds of cars honking and buses coming into the bus stop and settling. As I stood on the northwest corner of 68th and lex observing such a concentration of chaos, conversations of others would pass by. I saw a girl to her friend say “Yeah, but I have to work”, and heard a “what up, bro” as a group of kids converged to one of their friends. I then began to walk to park avenue on 68th and proceeded to walk uptown. The noise of student chatter and hustling had completely disappeared, only leaving the slight traffic to fill the air. As I approached the corner, a woman...

Interview Transcript

In the interview I conducted with Micheal, we went over the various ways in how Soccer and growing up an athlete has influenced multiple aspects of our lives. I tried to structure the interview in three parts, in which I would explore Micheal's memories of the past and present and then end it with what he thinks his future will be in Soccer. Interesting topics I am planning on highlighting will be the time spent in Colombia for the tournament, what being a captain means to him, and take aways from a long career almost at it's end.
